POVERTY © Steve Berger 2010
Poverty – sounds so romantic,
when you’re longing for the simple things.
Poverty – you think you miss it,
when you’re richer than you’ve ever dreamed.
You decide which bill to pay,
just enough gas to get you to payday…
So money brings trouble
and trouble costs money.
If you really mean it, donate to charity.
Your home is your castle
unless you’re on food stamps.
Just making your rent is the high point of your day.
Who needs a phone, you’ve got email.
There goes your email, who’s got a pen?
This isn’t a life you would buy,
enough peanut butter to get you to Friday.
No this isn’t the life that you thought it would be.
You’ve hit up your friends, and now they avoid you.
Poverty steals pride and possessions.
Y-o-u i-o-u
You can’t afford strings, sell your guitar.
If you can’t pay the rent, you’re living in your car.
